Vanessa Armenta
Program Manager of Community Outreach
Vanessa joined DSACO in 2019, leading the organization’s Latino outreach efforts and strengthening relationships with Spanish-speaking families.
In 2021, she transitioned into the role of Program Manager of Community Outreach, helping expand DSACO’s reach to other minority groups including, but not limited to, African American, Somali, Asian, and Latino families impacted by Down syndrome across Central Ohio. Through her cultural expertise and support, DSACO intentionally engages new families and builds partnerships with community organizations and businesses to enhance and grow collaborative minority outreach efforts.
In addition to serving as a liaison between existing and new minority families, Vanessa oversees the planning, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of DSACO-hosted educational seminars and programs for minority families.
Originally from Mexico, Vanessa relocated to Columbus, Ohio in 2009 and now lives in Plain City with her husband, Chuy, and their two children, Elissa and Gerardo, who has autism. She brings experience working with children in need, demonstrating a strong commitment to community service, but it was after Gerardo’s diagnosis that she developed a deep passion for advocacy and awareness for children with special needs. Vanessa enjoys cooking, traveling, photography, and spending time with family and friends.
